“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
Our cross-partisan intercultural learning communities expand current thinking about democracy and civic engagement beyond any one country's borders. The communities bring together advocates from across the United States with generational, geographical, class/socio-economic, political, racial, and gender diversity for a cross-partisan and intercultural experience with counterparts, experts, influencers, and advocates in other countries.
While intercultural exchanges touch on myriad pro-democracy issues, we focus on three areas in particular:
- Rule of Law, including the civic response to attempted overturnings of democratic elections and the need to recognize and combat misinformation;
- Electoral Integrity/Voting Processes, including greater voter participation, drawing lessons from the fact Brazil is the world's largest population where voting is compulsory and enforced, in stark contrast to recent shifts in U.S. election laws and trends; and
- Social welfare and social cohesion, i.e. How is community built and strengthened? How is trust built and reinforced? How are people who historically have had less power ensured a seat at the table with their voices being heard?
